Abiding in the Vine - How God Preserved a Righteous Seed: Part 3 of 13

Preview: This is the third part of a thirteen-part series of lessons on this subject.


Scripture Reading: Genesis 9:1-19.

Memory Verse: Ezekiel 1:28.

1. Do we see in the foregoing Scriptures how the rainbow depicts to us the glory and faithfulness of God?
Note: How often do we look at the beauty of the rainbow after a storm but never see the beauty of its message. God put it there to remind us of His covenant, to extend mercy and grace to all who will receive it. Let us never take the beauty of the rainbow lightly. Instead, let us praise and thank our Creator for His love and mercy to us. It truly is an unmerited favor.
2. What was the spiritual condition of man shortly after the flood? Genesis 11:1-4.
3. Was God displeased with their actions? Genesis 11:5-9.
4. What had God instructed them to do? Genesis 9:5-9.
Note: Was it their technology or their morality that displeased God? He had instructed them to multiply and replenish the earth. Therefore, we must conclude that it was their attitude of rebellion and not their building skills that brought judgment on them.
5. Why was a curse put on Noah’s son Ham? Genesis 9:18-25.
Note: Because of Ham’s immoral dishonor of his father God put a curse on him and his descendants which remains on the Canaanites today.
6. Who did Noah declare God’s blessings upon? Genesis 9:26-27.
7. Who was chosen to carry on God’s branch of righteousness? Genesis 12:1-4.
Review: Genesis 11:10-29 tells us that Abram came through the lineage of Shem, who had received the blessing from his father Noah.
8. What was the location of the land that God promised to Abram and his seed? Genesis 12:5-7 & Genesis 13:12-18.
Note: This is the land that we know today as Israel or the Holy Land. This was the cradle of Christianity as we travel backward from Abram to Adam. We see how God preserved a righteous branch to fulfill His original purpose of fellowship with mankind who He created in His own image. God Himself being the righteous vine and Seth, Enoch, Noah, Shem, and Abram the righteous branches because they abided in the vine. Satan could not defeat God’s plan.
9. How did Abram show that he was not spiritually mature? Genesis 12:9-16.
10. How did God protect His righteous branch? Genesis 12:17-20.
Note: Abram had started on a journey through faith, but he had not fully arrived. If you have moments of doubt and fear, don’t give up. Just seek the Lord and He will direct your path.
