Preview: Our tongue can be our greatest asset or our biggest liability. Controlling our words is one of the biggest steps in helping us to salvation. This is the first part of a two-part lesson on this subject.

Scripture Reading: James 3:1-13.

Memory Verse: James 3:10.

1. What governs our tongues? Matthew 12:34.
2. How is the tongue described? Can man tame the tongue? James 3:8.
3. How can we know a man’s heart? Matthew 12:35.
4. What does our tongue determine? Proverbs 18:21.
5. How is a man justified? Matthew 12:36-37.
6. What can God rule? Colossians 3:15.
7. What will we keep our tongues from when God orders our words? I Peter 3:10.
8. How does Solomon compare the tongue of the wise and the heart of the wicked? Proverbs 10:20.
Note: If the heart of the wicked man is of little worth, the tongue is also, as the wicked heart rules the wicked man’s tongue.
9. What will the tongues of the wise and foolish speak? Proverbs 15:2.
10. How can we keep our souls from troubles? Proverbs 21:23.
Note: When God rules in our hearts, He will also rule and tame our tongues, as the heart controls our words, and God will be there to give us the right words to say at all times.
